I recently ordered one and it should be here this week along with a Canon WP-DC1. If you do have the S80, could you please post pics?

Before I bought my first EOS 300D, I almost bought an S40, the pics were super nice and the movies were fine with me, and Ive seen that Canon has only imporved everything as the S series continued on.:D

I just bought an S70 even though I contempleted getting the s80. I decided to get the s70 because it has RAW image capabilites which this s80 does not provide. Also, I was able to purchase a new one at half the price of the s80. I figure the money saved on the camera would be put to better use with a strobe. The only things that I really liked about the s80 were the bigger lcd screen, the digicII image processor, and the extra megapixel (which in all reality isn't that big a deal anyways).

I've a only used my s70 a handful of times, but I am quite happy with it so far. I can't image these two models are very different. So I expect you will be thrilled with your new camera. Just get wet and use the damn thing.

On the S70 you own, I have 1 too and have really enjoyed it. Do you have a strobe for this and if so, which 1 or is there 1 you recommend?

Hi!

Please post more images if possible. I've been searching high and low for underwater images by the S80. I own an old S40 and a 300D. It feels like I'll be killing both those cameras if I get a S80 since it's pretty close in functionality to an SLR, and of course a much better compact than my S40. Why would I use the S40 with its UW housing ever again. Oh, all that money gone with the wind...

So, please post more images. I need to be convinced to make the switch LOL

Is the S80 quick to find focus under water? My S40 is not very good at all, and since I am using my camera when free diving I don't have too much time to fuss around.

The following partial quote is from dpreview.com.

"Focus speed isn't the best in its class, but it isn't far off, and is a lot better than most previous 'S' models......"

There is a lot more there but copyright restrictions prevent me quoting it. Definitely worth reading the whole review.

This camera is the first S series to use the new DIGIC II processor and is apparently a big step up from the S70. I was going to switch to a Fuji but now I think I will replace my S45 with this one.

I just wish there was a way of comparing dynamic range between the various P&S cameras because highlight clipping is the biggest drawback I have found.

Yup, I've read several reviews from dpreview, steves digicams and the like earlier, but I am haing a hard time finding anyone on the net who reviews the S80's underwater abilities. I've got an S40, and I've got buddies with S45, S50 and S70's and I can clearly see improvements.

I can still get the S70 with underwater housing at a good price from Germany. I'm wondering if the S80 is worth the extra money.

I sitll dont understand why they nixed the RAW writing feature in the S80??? otherwise looks like a nice camera... ;)

Eh, doesnt bother me, the pics are nice on super fine mode and super mode.

korpx, I too have a 300D and I thought about getting a housing for it, but I wanted to take vid too and almost bought a housing for my ZR300, but it doesnt take good pics at all, so I wasnt going to have 2 housings strapped on me haha. The S80 take NICE pics and video!. And I havnt noticed any focus problems underwater.

Let me resize some more pics!
