I've been diving in mixed GUE and UTD trained teams. I personally have utility gear in my left pocket and emergency gear in my right pocket. It's typically the other way around for the UTD trained divers that I dive with. We just make sure to tell each other what we have in our pockets during pre-dive checks.

I'm really with Richard. Something Joe Talavera said to us during Rec 2 stuck with me. There are things that impact the team, and things that just don't. Which pocket I have my stuff in, I think, doesn't impact the team. As Richard says, if you need some of my stuff, I'll get it out for you. If I need my stuff, I'll get it out for me. If I can't get the stuff out of my pocket by myself AND I can't tell you which pocket I need something from, then I've got bigger problems than how I organized my pockets.

I am a huge believer in standardization of equipment and procedures, but there are some things, I believe, that can be allowed to vary.

UH OH, you are in my dive "team" and my pee valve is on the left inner thigh. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to dive with you anymore. Sorry buddy.

My issue here revolves around the dominate hand of the diver in question. Emergency items go on the ride side for faster access which is great if your right handed. For the left handed diver putting emergency items on the right side makes it harder to manage those items.

I just routed my P-valve hose out the neck seal ... that way I didn't have to cut a hole in the drysuit.

It has less to do with handedness, and a lot more to do with where all your extra bottles are hanging . . .

Bob, I KNEW there was a reason your undergarment was soaking wet after the other night's dive. We need to talk.

My P-valve is on the Right inner thigh, close to the knee...I'm thinking about moving it closer to my ankle....Where should it really be?????

POLL....

Thankfully, p-valves aren't team resources. :)

As Lynn wrote, it has more with complete setup (which leaves right hand more free) rather then with right-handedness (I'm left-handed). If you look at the entry level, you have primary light on your left hand which means you have to put it somewhere (clip or move to right hand) in order to reach left pocket. If you add stages it becomes more crowdy on the left side. OTOH right side is pretty clean and easy to access.
