The whole thinking diver thing is over rated...Short term memory loss plus being narced diving on air, I don't think I could remember if you told me the mask was in the left...sorry :depressed:

+1 for standardization:rofl3:

How about you just stay out of my pockets eh? :D

Seriously, if you have to access my pockets then I am in a world of hurt. Stop worrying about my gear and get me home. And if you have lost your (backup mask, safety spool, SMB etc.) so now you need mine when I am also incapacitated - well then we are both definitively screwed.

*especially* if they look in the wrong pocket first and dont find the mask. Cause let's face it, who's gonna be able to think about checking .... the *other* pocket to see if it's in there ???? :)

Interesting; I didn't realize they differed. It seems I'm UTD but not GUE compliant (and probably taking Fundies in a couple of months). I wouldn't care, except that my (used) CF200 came with a DUI zip pocket on the right thigh, and I just recently added a Halcon Exploration? (the big one) pocket on the left. I keep frequently used stuff like maps, survey notes and folding rulers in the right pocket because the zipper and stiffener makes it easy to get into and out of one-handed (and there's nothing to clip stuff off to, so I could lose something inadvertently). The emergency gear (mask, my only SMB and spool) goes in the left because zipper jamming isn't an issue there.

I'd replace the right pocket with a velcro one, but it seems to be OEM and sewn-on, and I'm loathe to chance causing an unnecessary leak (having just replaced the suit zipper and finally been dry again, after a few months of semi-dry to soggy). How likely is it that you can remove a stitched-on pocket and not have any leaks?

Perfectly. I just cut mine off, then glued on the new one.

When you say you cut it off, do you mean that you cut the whole thing off including the stitching, or that you just removed the 'pocket' part and left the stitched 'rim' in place, then glued the new pocket on top of that?

I left the stitching in place. I was able to get it all flat enough that it wasn't a problem adding the new pocket on top.

is UTD still basically pre-pocket-reorganization-GUE?

if you dive with someone trained by GUE before about 2007, there's a different pocket contents that they'll likely be using...
