Best is a very subjective word, so I am sort of thinking in terms if least difficult and most enjoyable one to dive. Out of the 352, 85, and 701. The 85 and 352 seem to get more attention, and are dived alot more, but the 85 also seems to be a tad deeper and since it is farther north/away from the gulf stream, colder than the 352. My dad is doing the 85 next month, and we are curious of the differences of these two wrecks. I want to do one of them next summer and am just curious about the differences of them, and which is a better dive. Both the 85 and 352 are TypeVII's, correct?

U-352 is visited by the most divers, and would probably be considered, on average, to have the 'easiest' dive conditions. Keep in mind, however, that it is probably not an 'easy' dive. I have heard of at least 2 people who have died on U-352 so far this year (both recreational divers, no penetration or anything).

I don't have my log book with me, but I have been on both (2 dives each). I dove them within 2 weeks of each other in 2003 and I liked the 85 better. They are about the same depth....

Tell ya what. I'll check my log book tonight and post my entries for both of them if I can remember.....

The U-85 is a VIIB and 352 is a VIIC. Excerpts from my dive log are below.

I dove the 352 on 6/14/03
depth 113
temp 73
vis 40-50
Strong current up top, but not bad on bottom, all hatches were open, not much marine life compared to other Morehead dives.

U-85 1/2/03
depth 95
temp 54
vis 15
Outside of sub looks much different from the 352. 85 is in worse shape it is also covered with more marine life and fish than the 352. Entered sub through battery loading hatch and went through 2 of the compartments. Very tight quarters. Found a .30 cal shell on the deck after I came back out.
