I don't do much video so can't really tell how much of a difference halogen would make. I would think though that you can compensate color either way via your white balance settings?
These new led lights are pretty good: compact, easy to use and travel friendly. I have a 2500 lumens one and now it hurts my eyes to see the beam of a regular diving spot light (great for signalling your buddy, horrible light quality for pictures/video)
