I am new to diving and I am going to buy some gear. I have a very limited budget because I am a college student. I am buying my gear through leisurepro.com. They have 4 packages I am looking at. Which one is the best for me to go with? I would like several educated opinions on this. Also give reasons "why". Thanks.

Genesis "Genesis Octopus"
Genesis "React Pro" Inline Console
Genesis "GS2000" Regulator
Genesis Tropic BCD

PACK 2
Genesis "Genesis Octopus"
Genesis "GS2000" Regulator

Have you shopped around for prices? Phil Ellis from here on the board is at Dive Sports and carries the Genesis BC, you might give him a call 1-800-601-DIVE (3483) and see what kind of deal he could get you (you could PM him too but this type of conversation is easier over the phone). Make sure you tell him you're a Scubaboard member.

Scubatoys.com also has deals for Scubaboard members and are worth checking out before you buy. They are members of the board as well.

I would look closely. My brother bought a computer from Leisurepro and he seems to think that he does not get the manufacturer's warranty and he thinks it is used when he got it. They are not repsonding to his questions. Although he doesnt have all the info at this point, but he is sorry he did this.

I figured these were pretty good prices. All of the packages come with bags. The packages are about $750. I have looked around a bit...prices seem pretty good.

Do not buy from Leisurepro. Like RJTY mentions - they are very shady. Go to a real dive shop - not someone who specializes in selling cheap cameras (Lpro)

You should check some of the packages out here:

There are some that are priced the same or less than Lpro.. BUT you can deal with ScubaToys (much better than LP), and you get the manufacturers warranty that you DON'T get with LP.
Good Luck

I've bought my gear from Scubatoys. They took care of me and were awesome.

I got the Zeagle Brigade BC. It rocks

Yes, but you're going on the low end IMO. I think you could even get used gear.

Instead of rushing to get everything at once, maybe you could buy one piece of quality gear at a time. Its taking me four years because of price and getting one thing at a time, but I am really happy with everything I own. This will also give you a chance to rent different kinds and see what you like most.
