I want to buy a new set of double tanks with manifold and bands and was hoping that I could get some recommendations. I am a technical diver and have previously owned a set of doubles that I didnt get to do many dives on before I moved location. A lot of the diving that I will be doing will be in cold water so I think that I would want a set of steel tanks. Also even though my air consumption is good I don't want small tanks so that i could do a couple of rec dives on with the doubles. Was thinking of getting 100s. I am 6ft 1 and 200lbs. Would be interested to hear what manufacture/ size/ hp vs low pressure and where to buy them from. Don't know if it makes any difference but some of the diving will be on trimix. Thanks, Cameron.

Do you boat dive or shore dive? The quintessential doubles are 130s, but they can be a bear on a boat and aren't necessary for lighter tech dives. In that case 100s would be excellent. As for HP vs LP, unless you live in cave country and can reliably get overfills on the LPs, you're better served with HPs. More gas for the same size and weight. That puts you into Worthington X7-100 or X8-130 territory. Hot dip galvanize, high pressure, great tanks.

Just curious, with mentioning those two, why omit the X-7 120?

My favorite doubles are LP121's. dont get me wrong, they are heavy as hell, but there is never a shortage of backgas.......especially when I fill them to 3300+.

Double LP121s with a cave fill give you 330 cubic feet of gas. My HP100s with two AL80 stages give me 354. That's a 7% difference. Holy CRAP that's a lot of gas!

And thats why we cave fill tanks for deep and/or overhead dives. Its kinda like the old muscle car saying that there is no replacement for displacement....there is nothing better than ahving twice as much gas as you need in a package half the size.

only if you can get the fill... around here, the shops fill what the tank is rated for... :depressed: They give is 3500 in an HP, but will not cave fill LP/MP tanks...

Granted that is true, but if you either A) fill your own tanks(Ie: work for/through a dive center) or B) have a shop that will cave fill for you.....LP is the way to go.
