Once again someone asks a viable ? and gets bombarded with everyone's opinions of what they think he should have. Jared, get whatever YOU want that will fit your needs.

well, of course... this is kinda stating the obvious?

we're just giving him options. after diving a bp/wings,
i can't believe how much money i threw away in BC's before;
just trying to save him some cash in the long run.

also, they are about the most easy to dive piece of floating
assistance out there.

Not everybody wants or needs a BP/Wing.

of course, but it's nice to have that option. i wish someone
had told me about bc/wings much earlier in my diving.

why is it that when someone suggests a bp/wings everybody
freaks out and thinks we're ramming the thigns down
your throats? it's just another option.

Why do you use a BC for singles, rather than getting a singles wing for your backplate? Have you ever tried out the bp/wing with singles?
my same thought...
Not exactly.

Rather than being a true believer incredulous that not everyone wants to dive bp/wing, I'm actually curious about people's opinions on the merits of bp/wings for singles diving. Strangely, when I was in the market for a new bouyancy device about 18 months ago, I went to 3 different Halcyon dealers. In each case, the "tech guy" on the staff said that they dive bp/wings with doubles but prefer BCD for singles. Unfortunately, none of them could explain this preference.

Perhaps someone like DutchDown or Michael Schlink can shed some light on the question.

I just bought a BP/W, my Seaquest Black Diamond is for sale...........

First of all I find my Transpac far and away more comfortable than my Halcyon B/P/wing. As far as adjustability there is more in the Trans than a BP other than lengthening or shortening the shoulder straps what else is there to a BP harness. If I were to have to get you out of your gear in a hurry, unless you're using a "non" continues harness, the BP is going to be more of a problem. I prefer the shoulder straps to be more forward than with a BP Harness. Travelling with a BP for me isn't a very good option. There is 6 lbs of weight I don't need. I dive a 3 or 4 mil in salt water with no weight period so I won't use a SS backplate and I can't see having an aluminium or ABS besides my SS. When we travell overseas every single pound counts.
In fact the only reason I dive the BP is when cave diving the BP is w/o arguement more stable across my hips with heavy doubles. But I love my Trans for travellling and it's versatility. Try wearing a BP/Wing with no wetsuit. Some of us actually like to dive in warm water without a wetsuit. There are probably a few more reasons but this is enough. I'll say it again, BP/wing is OK but so are alot of other "traditional style BCD's.
A BP/Wing IS NOT the ultimate choice.JMHO-M

Hi Charlie,

In my case, it's because of the weight restrictions when I travel. Airlines allow 20 kg. weight allowance and my ss bp alone weighs 3 kg. Andy asked a good question...have I used my bp with singles? No, actually I haven't. Because I like the Balance so much, I've felt no compelling reason to by an sta which would add to my travel weight. Plus my wing, which is a Dive Rite rec wing would likely be overkill, in my opinion, for a single. Both rigs suit my purposes perfectly...I just prefer the Balance for singles and the bp/wing for doubles.

Regards,

Phil

You said it......

I have a Balance and BP/W. I have had a great experience with the Seaquest Balance but if I knew then what I know now I would have gone straight for the BP/W. For that matter I would say the same about my wetsuit. I wish I went straight for the drysuit rather than spending money on a wetsuit.

again, just because someone (in this case me) wonders
why someone isn't using a bc/wings doesn't mean
that i look down on people who chose BC's over bp/wings.

for like the umpteenth time, the reason i talk about
bp/wings with relatively new divers is that i wish i had
known about that option earlier in my diving.
