So I take this as another major pro for SS plates?
Not exactly, cus it weights a ton. If I had to pay the surcharge just to take it along I rather just rent stuff. Alu is fine.
I don't think most AL plates are anodized. I've seen a few colored ones that must have been, but your typical AL plate is not. Mine do get some marks on them from salt water, but it's nothing like rust on steel.
The plates I have from H, OMS, dive rite & Oxycheq are all anodized the only plate I had that didn't have the treatment was Hammerhead. The oxycheq plate may have been power coated instead but all have some form of treatment.
OMS also has that double stack under the plate holder. Way too bulky for me And as I said, I prefer the marker between my plate and my back. Not at my butt. My single wings are donuts and the inflated wing kind of squeezes a marker under the plate into my body.
True about the bulk as I have the deep outdoors one and it is a bit bulky but what do you mean squeeze a marker under the plate?
The butt plates hangs away from the crotch strap n I found lumbar pockets a pain to work with. I just use a thigh pouch when I don't need a lift bag and a smb during a trip.
Oxidization is the chemical reaction from exposure to oxygen which results in rust. Galvanic corrosion occurs when two or more different sorts of metal come into contact in the presence of an electrolyte ie salt water. I reduce this by having a plastic spacer in between the plate n bolt. However, there will always be a small amount of corrosion (white power like substance) after any of my trips.
