Hmmm....First open water dive..........Sarasota Fl......196?.....used the newest thing on the market-a single hose reg....no BC......no guages of any kind (only pressure guage on the market was one that read the tank directly from the bare valve-not submersible)......tank with metal pack on my back and nylon webbing holding it on.........and all of that was state of the art!!
My how I love diving today!!!

Great 'first time' Allison. Thanks for sharing it. :)

My checkout dive was quite a few years back, as I recall Moses said the ark was taking on water and thought he had a board loos so being the only dumbASS on board with scuba gear I voluntered to go over the side to take a look. Everything went so well and the problem was traced to a large land animal taking a whizz. Noah signed off on my card.

My first dives were in Marbella-Estepona, Spain. My wife and older son certified with me. My younger son did his first two dives there, then due to an ear infection, did his second two near (about 200 miles from our home) our house in Pudget Sound. We haven't gone back. With the change of exchange (dollar vs. euro) we probably won't go back. The water was cold (7mm suit) and there wasn't much to see at the training site. I much prefer warm water diving. However, I plan on diving in Pudget Sound for the first time this August. I may end up doing that on a semi regular basis.

My first OW dive was at Royal Spring in Suwanee County, FL... It was a silty "spring" during low flow and had 0 surface outflow at the time.

Have I returned? Yes. Have I taken others, yes. My dad and neice did their first OW dives there also, water levels were up and had a surface flow.

I also use it as a practice when testing new gear while down in FL cave diving :D

My first dive ever was in Lake Underhill Orlando... circa 1973 or so. No instructor, no BC, no SPG, just a lot of trying to not die. Back then we dove in lakes, off of the coast, once in Tampa Bay (v-e-r-y scary) and lots of springs. Tanks were cobbled together and filled at the Navy Base, and we only brought one tank each. Real gear was for sissies... :D

My dirst OW check out dive was in Lake Isis... in fact ALL of my checkout dives were there. My first post cert dive (other than Lake Isis) was in Blue Spring with a set of doubles. I do miss the brim in Lake Isis. :D

My very first dive was in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, I believe in 1994. I never managed to equilibrate my ears, and it was awful...

OW cert was in the Sultanate of Oman. Much better!
