Consider Pennisula Diving Center as they are pretty close to you, and they have a pool on site for training.

I have visited them, and I have sent a friend who bought gear from them, but I don't know how good (or bad) their instructors are. The owner was a very cool guy to chat with.

I have bought gear at Wallins. Wallins and the now defunct Splash Aquatics were owned by the same people at one time. One of my good friends here at work thinks very highly of Wallins. They have been good when I have visited their shop, but I don't know the quality of their instructors. I believe that they also have a pool on site.

Hope that helps a little,

I'm guessing Water Baby is already certified - she asked back in July.

Thanks for the heads up on Trevor and Andrea - been meaning to touch base with them, I did my last two dives in Monterey back in August with Trevor and my regular buddy Tom, who did his DM with Trevor.

Ah... how special is that? I didn't notice the July post, and only responded when it came up on the new threads (from the previous more recent post.) Don't I feel dumb. Andrea and Trevor were certainly around in July, and you're probably right: Water Baby has probably long since been certified.

How do you shut down a thread when it's clearly out-of date?

Don't worry - someone else resurrected it, not you :)

You can't shut down a thread for being out of date - a moderator can close a thread, but that's reserved for threads that get out of hand rather than the topic becoming out-of-date. Letting ordinary users close threads would be too problematic.

Thanks to some financial issues Water Baby is not yet certified, and it's now June of 2004.

But, thanks to Cliffdiver's posting, I have contacted Craig and have signed up for his Open Water certification class.

I spent quite some time on the phone with him and he seemed both friendly and knowledgable, two important things I look for in a teacher.

So thanks a bunch Cliffdiver! As of August 1st, if all goes well, I will be happily certified. :D
