Clive of the resort staff has residency, and will likely be there for some time. DM/Captains Clive, Sunny, Roxy and Phil have moved on.

lulubelle,
You will really enjoy Pirate's Point--especially the food and relative quiet of the resort. LOL When I talked to Gladys a few months ago, she said that repeat guest demand for her waterfront rooms is so great, that one almost has to wait until someone dies to get one.

Clive is not there any more, but Clive is still there.

:)

Clive of the resort staff is a lovely soul, I will miss the other Clive next time I visit there, he was great and always looking out for everyone's safety.

I imagine so! I am looking forward to it. It has been a tough FEW YEARS, so I was looking for some downtime to go with all that good diving. And I am a bit picky about food, so I suspect I will fare better there. I actually lost a few pounds while at LCBR which really is an advantage.

So is there a reason so many of the DMs have left in a fairly short window of time? Is it just residency/immigration limitations or is there something else going on? I know Ron also left recently. Sunny (and Clive I believe) is now working at a resort in Fiji.

I forgot about Ron. He left because of the Caymans rules. The current Cayman work permit rules require that someone without residency must leave (for at least 1 year, thus resetting the clock) after 7 years. Interestingly, a person may apply for residency after having been there for 8 consecutive years. I believe that there is a special rule that allows residency if one spends a LARGE amount of money on a property. I think the threshhold is ~$800,000. It would seem that the powers that be do not want to grant residency to working class individuals.

I do not believe that any of the other DM/Captains I mentioned left because of the 7 year rule. Over the past 18 years I have seen a very large number of employees come and go. There are probably as many reasons as there are people.

Would this be 8 total years ? In other words 7 consecutive, one year away and than 1 more year after returning. Not planning
on this just a bit curious how these programs work. With only 7 years allowed would be pretty tough to get 8 consecutive if this
is the requirement ? Sorry about the off topic, now returning to your regularly scheduled thread !

That is exactly the point.
When one leaves for the required 1 year, the clock resets to zero, and AFAIK he may then get work permits for 7 more years.

That is the basic rule, but there are a few exceptions. There has been a movement afoot for the past several years seeking to change what many consider a very stupid rule.

LCBR might consider updating their website. I looked at it the other day and Ron and Sunny were still listed as DMs.
