I'm an instructor and my girl friend is a very experienced diver. We're in Ko Samui now and want to do some good divings.(Flying back home on 5th Aug from Bangkok.) We're terribly used to do dives with 30m visibility in Turkey:) So is there any recommendations like heading to Ko Tao or Phuket from here? Anyone doing dives currently? Where should we head to for a good visiblity and cool dives?

Berst divbing year round: Andaman Sea. Visibility though is very unpredictable at most divesites, exceptions being the Racha Islands (from Phuket) and Koh Haa (from Koh Lanta).

Whilst Koh Tao is some of the best diving on the East of Thailand. Nowhere in the Gulf of Thailand is renowned for visibility of the (30m) distance you mention. Yes on occasions it is possible, but not consistently.
As Steven said your best possibilities without question are the Andaman Sea.

The prices in Phuket seems like 3500-4200 B a day though which is quite expensive. Is that what it should be or could we find any good bargain?

If you're paying 4,200 Baht for 3 dives including equipment rental that is very reasonable here, we're charging 4,000 Baht for that at the moment.

Divesites are quite far away, and diesel is a big part of the total expenses.

Decided to go diving in Koh Tao. Any suggestions there. Planning to be there on 27th.
