craigslist is a good option as well, you've got to watch it for a while to find good deals on good gear, but sometimes you can get an incredibly good deal, my father got all his gear (reg, transpac, wing, nitek computer, weights) all diverite brand used 4 times for 350$. happy hunting.

Right. Search on the local and nearby Craiglist sites by searching "SCUBA" in the Sporting Goods section. However, while most of the risk on Craigslist is to sellers inviting people to their homes to see goods (also nearly always being hit by those wanting to send money orders and get change back), you're contemplating going to meet someone with money in hand. Meet in public places with people around. If you're not in the Austin area and are willing to travel, you may find Austin Craigslist has more scuba gear than most places.

Ask your instructor if he/she replaces their gear every year & can you buy it?

Since I'm a newbie, thought maybe I'd sit at the computer with an instructor from my dive shop to see what was worthy of purchase.

umm, you really have managed to actually get your LDS instructor to help you shop for scuba gear bargains on the WWW ??? WOW, I'm impressed! :)

Wha kinda gear we talkin bout here dude?...............:superman:

Ive bought gear here and gear there and out of the print media :shocked2:

Just have some decorum and don't ask to use their :toiletclaw:

All very good.

Flea Bay works very well in the UK, Classified ads on here. Just factor in a service for Regulators. If I was in the market for a Second Hand Dry suit I would want to see it and try it on before buying.

Or I was gonna say the shop itself probably gets new rental/training class gear from time to time and sells the old. It probably comes freshly inspected, assembled, and if you take it back there for future service, you are probably going to get a better rate. It's also a way you can help keep your LDS in business without paying highly marked up prices for brand new stuff.

Consult with Keithdiver here on the board, he has a way with gear to get divers to sell it cheap to him. And from what I heard knows alot about gear.

Its your choice If you buy gear on the board(if things do not work out, you can post about the diver) the above is a joke, and funny it was for a long time.

Buying used is a deal to a point, deals new online is awesome.

When buying here remember its used, as is, and good or bad to what you think, your buying already used gear.

Happy Diving

...whenever I buy 'used' gear, I'm only interested in extremely good to excellent condition items...no 'fixer uppers', as the time/ $ needed to resurrect those items isn't time or $ justified for me. Of course, there is the small scuba do-it-yourself population for whom that may make more sense, as they're not paying retail prices for parts/labor.

my lds' website says they are continually selling their rental gear, and it comes pre serviced so you know its good to go.
