FYI, the reason I am getting the AL80s is so I can practice in anticipation of an upcoming trip to dive cenotes in Mexico where I assume all they will have will be AL80s.

You're right that Al80s are standard in Mexico, but I don't see that that makes it worth while for you to buy a pair. LP85s make much more sense. Rent or borrow a pair of Al80s before your trip if you feel you must.
