Its a sales gimmick plain and simple. While the port and the 1/2 hose may well flow more air....with the second stage removed and connected to a high flow supply, the fact is the second stage and tank valve are the limiting factors in any reg. Besides that, the final limiting factor is the diver himself, as long as the reg can supply more air than he can use at his max, then it's good enough. Any second stage on the market today can supply many times the flow a single diver can inhale. Push the purge button and see if you can inhale all the air coming out.....it's like drinking from a fire hose. Some breathe with less effort or with more comfort, all of which is determined by the second stage, the first stage and hoses have almost nothing to do with performance of a reg, In the end , if the diver gets all he needs, there is no need for some super high flow rate........unless you need a sales gimmick.
