I didn't realize until I was packing this morning that the battery on my Suunto Vytec DS wrist computer is about to run out of juice. Is there somewhere in Cozumel where I can get my battery replaced? Preferably near the square? And preferably without running the risk of flooding my computer with a shoddy battery replacement. If not, I'll dive using my backup Suunto Vyper computer, so it's not the end of the world.

Does the battery replacement for that computer require special skills? Is it a special battery that you cannot find at Mega or a camera shop? I replace my own in my Oceanic all the time; it's no more complicated or hard to get right than replacing the battery in a dive light or camera.

I would try the Chedraui. You can safely replace it yourself.

There is a dive supply store just off the corner of Avenida 9 and Calle 5. I forget what it is called but there is a big dive flag on the door. I went there to get a replacement cover for my first stage and I checked to see if they had betteries for my Uwatec Gallileo. They did so probably have for yours also. P.S. Their prices were pretty steep.

If the big groceries fall through, I always got my batteries at the little stall place on Juarez maybe between Avs 15 and 20 or maybe between 20 and 25, can't remember. It's on the left hand side as you are heading east and it looks like a kind of indoor market with different merchants having their own little stalls. A few places sell them in there but I always had good luck with the first merchant on the right as you walk in......you can see them on the wall and they were always half the price of anywhere else (like the Kodak store).

P.S. MMM----avenida 9??.....whoops!

Whoops is right. I got that turned around: calle 9 and avenida 5. I'll take that as a sign from God that I need to get back to Coz soon if I can't give proper directions to a place down the street from my house.

There are plenty of dive stores but I had the same problem and never got it replaced so had to use a gauge and a backup computer

The battery is available at many dive shops around town. I have lots of o-rings for Suunto Gekko if yours takes the same size and you need. On Salas bet. 5 & 10, Studio Blue is usually a good place for service. And Cozumel Scuba Repair back in the hood is highly recommended.

Try Studio Blue. They have the widest selection of batteries.

Last January, I needed a new battery for my Suunto transmitter and they were the only shop to have it.

Good luck.
