Yep, non-diving related. And anyhow, it was me who was the pragmatic one.
And I too think it's lame that the thread was removed. I do think it had gotten out of hand and people were not being terribly civil, but all the same, you've got to admit it was INTERESTING....
And BTW Spectre, there's LOTS of stuff here, and elsewhere, that serves no real purpose (other than entertainment, which is what I consider most of what transpires on scuba board). Please tell me you don't advocate removing everything that fits that description!

I'm not sure if your comments are directed towards me or not, but since you chose to quote me, I will respond to them.
I think to say that any one person was at fault is a little harsh. The emotions ran high on both sides of this debate, and there were posts from several people which contributed to the demise of this thread.
I can't speak for anyone else, nor would I want to, but I certainly didn't insult you. If I remember correctly, I was the third person to post to the thread and that post was stating an objection to your thoughts of deleting the thread. In fact, I agreed with you that the joke may not have been "politically correct" but that Clive had a right to post it without censorship.
If this comment is directed to me then I think you are being unnecessarily defensive. I did not insult you and if you perceived my comments as such I apologize. I did not attack you, and I saw no post from you insulting me in any terms, not-so-polite or otherwise. I did state that I felt that some of your responses were unbecoming for any person in a leadership position and thus uncalled for.
For many of the other people who stated objections to the thread being deleted, let me add this.
I believe I was among the last to view the thread, and I am almost certain I was the last person to post a response to it. In fact, when attempting to view the thread immediately after my post was when I discovered it no longer existed. As such, I feel that I have a unique perspective on it's final minutes.
The thread had settled down until posts by several users got it stirred up again. Since many of you did not see the last half dozen or so posts it is probably difficult for you to appreciate the moderators decision to remove it.
Even though I am opposed to censorship, I agree with and respect the decision that was made regarding it. Perhaps the thread could simply have been closed, but it would definetly have been detrimental to allow it to continue on its present course unchecked.
Now, why cant we all forget all of this and JUST GO DIVING!

It was primarily, but not solely, directed at you. As to why, your opinion, again, differs from mine but that's ok. "Unnecessarily defensive" is not such a bad thing to be called, I've heard worse, recently even.
I agree with you, let's let it drop.
