that what WW says is correct. The thread was not pulled for the reason you postulate. There were some objections to the joke but it was accepted that it should remain on the Board. The thread was ultimately pulled because it was going nowhere fast other than towards a flame war that would not have benefitted any user.

I too was kinda enjoying the banter, the thrust and jabs, the discussion in general.

I can't believe it was bad enough to pull... I really feel cheated. First time I felt that the moderators are acting as more censors. I hope this isn't indicative of how these issues are always to be handled... Bummer....

It was so cool to hear honest feedback from our friends across the sea even though it may not be what we Americans like to hear, it was their perspectives.

It was pulled because I got out of line, not because of any perceived anti-American things. In fact, the people that I sent my final words to were Americans. I had no trouble seeing Clive and Irishdiver's perspectives on the topic.

Things went bad not because of our friends across the pond...

Because the issues that got ugly were still directly related to the original joke. When a thread goes off on a tangent and that tangent gets ugly, the tangent can get pulled.

When the main line of the thread gets ugly, ripping out the ugly parts doesn't solve anything 'cause they are just gonna spark up again. And when the thread in it's entirely serves no real useful purpose, then why bother leaving it.

I'm sure if you really want to see the joke, Clive can PM it to you... but there is no need to leave a joke around that is just going to get people worked up....

I would have to say that it was a lively discussion, it had purpose of provoking thought and ideas! To say it had no purpose is your opinion, it really wasn't all that bad and the joke wasn't even that offensive (except to WW). Unfortunately, humor is usually at someone or something's expense, can't shield everyone's feelings. Have you seen the thread in question?

You further emphasize my fear that the moderators are more censoring what they feel is offensive or irrelevant. I know that the owners can do what they please but do they really want a completely sterile environment or can we be honest and candid without fear of getting pulled? I agree that offensive posters should be warned and posts should be pulled but I was shocked the whole thread got pulled.

Non-diving conversations take place all over this board, it is how people connect, relate, pass info. Just because it wasn't SCUBA related, it was a bunch of divers discussing it. Our community. Geesh...
