I need a quick reminder (or consensus):

Rechargeable batteries in Carry On or in The Hold for international flights?

I got stopped twice recently. Tokyo and Dubai. Both times, I had to go ‘behind the curtain’ at the gate and watch a dorky guy search my checked in bag to remove a stupid battery which the X-Ray machine had determined would explode in mid-flight. And no I was not allowed to tell either searcher where it was.

Leaving the US they go in your carry-on. Which country and airline? I carry all rechargeable batteries in plastic cases or in the electronic device they go with. I've had them look carryfully at my heated vest batteries but they have never taken any.

Trip 1: Roatan on United.

Trip 2: PAL to Manila

I assure you no heated vest for me to either destination.

I've had to put them in both carry-on and in checked so the best bet is to check with the airline. They almost universally have to be in the device or in a case made for them. Loose in a bag is never good.
