Part of the idea with DIR is that you can progress to different levels, and all your original equipment configuration stays the same. The buckle position becomes an issue when using a scooter. The crotch strap will go side to side as you cruise, if the buckle is on your left side, the crotch strap loop can get hooked on the buckle, opening it when the strap slides back to the center. I've seen it demonstrated, it can happen real easy, and what a surprise!!

SCORE ResQ once bubbled...
Will you guys ever forgive me?
we'll forgive you.... though I don't know why you need to be forgiven.

Now for more important reasons why right is right:

The buckle needs to be on the right side because if it were on the left side the tail of the waist strap would interfere with clipping and unclipping the SPG every 5 minutes to check your gas supply... and you also might accidently release the buckle when clipping and unclipping your SPG.
