Where can I learn about tides?

I'm interested in learning about tides.

I'm hoping for internet sites, articles or books with some of this information.

First, where can I find information about the tides in any given area? For example, if I want to dive a particular location, how do I find out when hi/low/slack tides will be?

Second, where can I read and learn about how to interpret and understand this information?

I'm interested in learning about tides.

If you are more of a bookworm, you can read the appropriate sections of "The American Practical Navigator", originally by Nathaniel Bowditch. It's pretty expensive, so you might want to track down a library copy or one you can borrow.

The government pub "Tides and Currents" is considerably cheaper and gives you the raw data to do the computations. This is an annual pub.
