When (typically) do Dive Shops have "Sales" ?

In almost every other industry you see the end of the year "Gotta get this years inventory out before the new years inventory comes in Sale" sale, an I was wondering does this hold true for the dive industry as well ? Is there a particular time of the year for old model closeouts or other perhaps industry specific times?

How about when a shop sells off its rental gear for new stock? does this usually happen every... 3 years? more often? less?

My LDS has a sale around Thanksgiving where they sell the rental gear that is 3-5 years old. I'm guessing it's done to get them through the slow time of the year.

Sales undoubtedly differ from location to location since some areas have a more restricted dive season due to weather and others are year-round. Some sales are end-of-year while others are beginning-of-season (for example, Sport Chalet has a June sale). Of course those in the southern hemisphere probably differ from ours in the northern hemisphere.

My LDS is running a "christmas" special of 10% off everything, and they already have lower prices than I have seen most other places.

Some dive shops have small sales like a 10 percent off tuition, but lately, there have been a lot of "going out of business" sales. I think like 4 dive shops went out of business in the bay area. I know of atleast 3 in my city that have failed in the past 10 years.

Alot of the online guys had them pre-Christmas(so much % off with free shipping etc etc)......I know Divers Direct still has some going, just ordered a 3 mm full wetsuit for 20% off.......
