I went diving last year in early late Sept/Oct in Key Largo. Great time, water temps were perfect.

However the winds were up for some of the week. To the point dive ops were canceling trips. I had some other non-diving things to do so it was fine with me.

A local diver told me the winds are always higher from XX month to XX month. However I did not write down his information. And my memory is fuzzy on the exact months.

For future trips I want to get a handle on when the winds are an issue? (Yes I know weather is difficult to predict, but this person made it seem as though it was a regular deal.)

Any and all tips appreciated.

IMO, the windiest months are January through April as the cold fronts are passing through but even then, there's plenty of dive opportunities if you remain flexible and ready to go when the weather window opens.

If you don't mind sifting through a boatload of data that still won't guarantee you anything, ten years of historical wind data for Molasses weather station is compiled here: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_history.php?station=mlrf1

My birthday is in October and I've learned that when planning a birthday dive, I need to have alternative options lined up. October can be flat calm or blowing like a banshee. We've had some bad hurricanes in October as well.

Enjoy your trip!

We've had a bunch of wind this past week! Usually the summer months are calm and September is often calm and also quiet 'cause alot of people are back to school or work. November through April is often blowing strong but you get some nice days in there also, you just don't know when.
