When your friends tell you that they want to do an entire weekend of repetitive deco diving, and you dust off your extra set of doubles (your third set in the closet), which when together with your two working sets of doubles, gives you 3 sets of twin tanks filled with trimix, then you know that two sets of doubles is not enough.

I called one of my old friends, who owns a scuba shop, and hardly ever goes diving anymore, except on vacation once a year in the tropics with his wife and kids, and I asked him, "You know that set of doubles that you have not used in awhile? Can I buy them off you? Wanna sell them?"

I never thought that two sets of double tanks would ever be insufficient for my type of tech deco diving. Soon I will have 4 sets. I suppose it all depends on your diving buddies and how wild about scuba they are! :)

i only dive with one tank... but it is a rather LARGE tank... well... it's a 95

but hey, i dove with a 120 this weekend... which is LARGER than the 95,
and much, much larger than a weeny 33 cf pony bottle, you must admit

you know, if i were the size of a cat, that one 95 would be the equivalent of
your four sets... i would have gas for ever

sorry... got sidetracked...

4 sets of doubles, huh? that's a lot of gas

i can't imagine managing more than my single. but gotta step up to doubles soon

I know what you mean. We have a little wreck expedition going this summer where we're going to run out 60 miles from town with no way to refill. Though I doubt my boat would haul 8 sets of doubles and all the deco bottles.

Exactly!

Exactly exactly exactly!

I am lucky that I already have 4 deco bottles. Now I am wondering if I need more of those as well?

Andy you are going to need 4 sets of doubles too, in all likelihood someday, and at least 4 if not more deco bottles. :)

Two sets is minimal; three's tolerable; four's about right.
In the meantime, make sure you have a sidemount rig and an independent doubles rig, and a half dozen or more singles :)

I'll rent you a set of OMS Faber 98's for $1000. My return policy is the same as Blockbuster's. There are no late charges. :eyebrow:

BTW, I guess OMS is buying hot-dipped galvanized steels from PST now rated at 3400psi. I wonder if they will be available soon, or if they are just a pretty picture in a catalog?

My PST 130s took 4 months to get here by special order. I believe they are in extremely high demand at the moment. And there will be a glut on the used tank market of 104s real soon, as people try to dump those in favour of the 130s. :)

I have not gone down the sidemount road yet, though I have read a lot about it in Curt's ADM mags. Not sure I ever will. That is sort of a specialty item, for Florida boys, who have more than a few caves to go diving in, which we do not have here on the Pacific Coast.

As for singles, 3 have always been plenty for me, Rick. I don't do that much single tank diving anymore. Once in awhile, when the scuba club that I D/M for askes me to organize a dive trip for them, is all.

So you charge the full price of the product after two weeks? :06:
