when driving back to town after a north shore dive..
we climb the pass near wheeler field with a field elevation of 837 ft MSL..
before heading back down the H-2.

does 837 ft constitute enough of pressure difference to be a DCS factor?

because i believe it might.. when i have time.. i delay the climb back home..
and opt for lunch at killer tacos :D
this is to give an extended post-dive surface interval..
needed? recommended? thoughts?

btw.. coming off the top approaching haleiwa or heading down H-2..
sometimes i've had to clear my ears.. but not always.

Call DAN and ask. We did when I lived in Colorado, they gave us a recommendation of I believe at the time 4 hours (which is something like 9000 ft above MSL) before crossing Raton Pass after Diving the Blue Hole.

Ahhhhhh, your gonna diiiiiiieeeeeeeee.

I think the rule of thumb is try not to have a change of altitude of more than about 1000-1500 feet. Here is a website from the University of Washington that gives some numbers. I am sure there are plenty of other ones, but this is one that I found that seems to be a reputable source.

mrjimboalaska:
I think you should call DAN now! How long has it been since your dive? Don't Hesitate and just make the call, NOW! Better to be safe......

I called DAN they said, in order to not get bend JJ must come glue my boat back together...oh wait nevermind two other dudes did that that have used my boat .00001 as much as JJ has...anyway they said if you couldn't do that you should buy me a case Heineken...

well.. from this thread: http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=173341
DocVikingo:
..here are the guidelines I use:

Required Surface Interval Before Ascent to Altitude after Diving
http://www.ndc.noaa.gov/pdfs/AscentToAltitudeTable.pdf

Be aware the Repetitive Group Designator letters are based on the NOAA tables
http://www.ndc.noaa.gov/pdfs/NoDecoAirTable.pdf

Regards,
DocVikingo
from the above NOAA tables.. i ran several "two-dive" scenarios..
and easily ended up in a repetitive group designator of J or K..
which require a surface interval of 1+30 or 3 hours, respectively, before ascent to 1000 feet..
(my scenarios were for the sharks' cove/three-tables/firehouse sites.. not even considering double-deeps in haleiwa trench)

just something to think about next time you go north..
besides.. killer tacos are awesome :D (and no, i don't have stock in 'em)

DAN gave me a different story when I just called. They said Samuel Adams Boston Lager is the only thing that will prevent JJ form getting bent, that AND some of that expensive adhesive that the Ducky sucks up!
I just hope he calls, I cant believe he would take such risks.............

You must be able to pick up the Killer Taco in order to eat it. Have you been working out lately?
I'm pumped at the moment after tossing my HP100 around for an hour trying to get all the gravel out........1 Tank O2 clean BABY!
P.S. I'm going to Sand Man in the morning and getting a better medium to use....:D
then, I'll clean the other.....

Scuba and Dream:
..you should buy me a case of Heineken..
no green bottles for you..
you'll get silver-bullets and like 'em :biggrin3:

rj3.. btw.. i looked at that table too..
but it jumped from requiring zero SI to six hours SI..
(not enough compartments maybe)

the NOAA/Navy dive tables seem more logical..
