I have two Dacor regs, an Enduro and a Viper Tec, which I was going to take in for annual service before my trip to the Bahamas in May. My local shop hasn't been able to get parts for a while, and apparently Dacor is no longer supporting any of their regs older than about two or three years. Is that for real? If so a whole lot of regs are gonna be obsolete in no time, and a lot of divers are gonna be peed off.

This doesn't have anything to do with the schlocky reputation that I've heard Dacor has had in general, does it?

cheers

Billy S.

Where did you get a Viper Tec? They really didn't sell those much in the US.

As far as parts - This has been addressed in some other threads - but here goes. Dacor was going belly up a few years ago - Head Sports - the parent company of Mares, came in and bought them. Many of their reg designs before the Mares/Dacor merge were a little over the top. There are more parts in 1 dacor extreme 1st stage than you would find in 30 mares regs...

When parts starting running out on the old - and not too efficient Dacor regs - Mares decided to not tool back up to still make them... So yes... when they're out - they're out.

The viper tech shouldn't really be much of a problem - depending on which 1st stage you have on it... the Enduro... Pretty much going to be a paper weight. I'd say save the money on the rebuild - even if you can find the parts - and just buy a new 1st stage for that one.

As far as Dacors "schlocky reputation" - Their rep for quality and design did a nose dive in the mid 90's - that's why they were on the sales block. Now it's really just Mares regs with a different face.

At this point as far as first stages go, you can't get parts for anything older than their 960 second stage. The second stage situation is not quite as dire as some can use fairly generic seats although there are some noteable exceptions where Dacor had to do something really different.

And I suspect that when parts that are still available get low, they won't make another run of those either.

The backorder situation has been really bad as well so even when something currently cataloged is ordered it has still taken months for it to arrive.

DACOR PARTS SERVICE KIT FOR SALE
Parts kit number 9680-05, new never used, still in the original packaging. This "Kit" says "DACOR 1ST AND 2ND STAGE KIT/ANNUAL OVERHAUL KIT" (1st stage 960 & 460 is marked on the bag too) ". This kit should be used by a trained professional with current training in Dacor repair. Service instructions can be included if needed.
Kits are all sold as is so be sure you are purchasing the correct kit as they can not be returned.

I have a large box of new, never used parts kits and will be listing them as time permits, please e-mail me and ask if you are looking for something special, and I'll see what I can do.

I just disassembled a Dacor 960 1st stage and found nothing spectacular.
A bunch of O - rings and a rubberized coated metal disc about 1 3/8" round.
I can replace the O - rings but where can I get the disc?

Was it really necessary to restart a 5 YEAR OLD THREAD just to avoid posting in the classified section?
