Is the only difference between the Envoy Deluxe, and the DS V regulators, the environmentally sealed first stage?

Thanks!

just adding to the question... why does the envoy deluxe, technically speaking, breath better and has better ergo scores than the DSV (based on scubalab tests 2006 best regs).

and if anyone can let me know if the envoy deluxe be environmentally sealed?
thanks

My limited understanding is it is due to the Environmental sealing of the First Stage itself.

The same way as the Flathead XP scores better results than the Flathead VI and they all score better than Apeks.

Basically on an environmentally sealed First stage you have an air gap between the water and the Diaphragm, this air gap unlike water is compressable hence it is not so good at transferring the water pressure to the diaphragm. So are a little less responsive in taking up the slack.

On Reg without an Environmental seal the water is in direct contact with the diaphragm, so not having an air gap to pass the pressure through therefore a little more responsive.

For me personally unless I am diving in water cold enough to freeze up the first , ie NEVER I always go for Envoys and Flathead XPs, never seen the point of Environmentally sealing Regs for Diving in warm waters.

Thanks for the response chriso, I had thought as much and i'm sure the differences between .95 and 1.13 from a machine test are insignificant to most people ( me inlcuded! ) .

From what i've read... the environmental seal will be useful with keeping sand and other unwanted things out of the first stage when shore diving which is what i'll be doing most.

although some of the tests seem biased, it's always nice to get a scubaboard opinion :)

I understand your concern on wanting to keep sand and grit out, but all that is under there is a big spring and the diaphragm, I have done hundreds of shore dives and dragged my Envoys and XP's through countless wrecks, having them bash into rusting walls and being dragged through zero vis silt and sand, they have never malfunctioned not once. Its really not that big of a deal I just give them a good rinse with a hose and blast anything out.

The key with any Regs is get get the salt off them ASAP after the dive and ALWAYS wash them connected to a tank with the air pressure on, this ensures no water enters the First Stage or creeps its way up the hose from the second stage.

Can never say it enough its a DUST CAP people, not a water cap :no
So often I service Regs that are corroded inside and only ever due to divers dunking their regs in fresh water without them being pressurized.
