Y cant we dive the portland ?

I can't dive it because it's a tad deep for me. Others with the skills to do can't dive her because she lies (just barely) in the Stellwagon Marine Sanctuary (NOAA). Although, I'm sure sooner or later someone will apply for a permit.

I'm telling you guys....it's all about the Field & Sea......

I don't know anyone in my circle of buddies or tech instructors who would be up for a dive to 400' ;)

Me either, but with a famous wreck like that lying at a depth where it's deep even for experienced tech divers, I think it's got a lot of potential to become the new Doria if it's ever opened up.

400 " wow thats a long way down ....

Anybody know anything on how to read side scan sonar, why the discrepancy of black through the sonar images. of the Portland??? As for the debate, I'd say the u-853, and the blackpoint, granted they're off RI, but charters from Ma run there. Talk about history, the last uboat sunk in WW II, and the ship the uboat sunk (blackpoint) comeon, you can't beat history like that.
