You need to give some additional parameters, like depth range. The Andrea Doria is kinda off of Boston. :)

I personally am partial to the Pinthis. I've only done a couple dives on her, but it's a 250 ft long "Real" wreck with good vis and not many divers.

I've heard the U-853 is nice. Have you dove her?

OK lets say from 35-75 ft .....

What do you feel is the best wreck to dive off the coast of MA. And why ?

The Poling is a great dive day or night. Max depth is 100' at high tide to the sand. This is a "real" wreck that broke in half and sank during a storm so it has history. The wreckage is intact so it is impressive to see especially the first time. There is often some good sealife there and of course the hull is covered with anenomes and such.

Once during a night dive I saw the largest lobster I have ever seen, heard about, or read about underneath the broken side of the Poling. Basically you would have to see it to believe me. Fortunately I had a buddy present to share the tale. I found it and just paused like a deer in headlights.....I was thinking I must have been hallucinating or something. It was during a night dive. I looked away...blinked my eyes a few times...then shined my light back underneath. To try to describe the size of this thing....I looked at it a few minutes then grabbed my buddy to show him. My buddy was an instructor with a decent amount of experience. When he shined his light underneath the wreck I saw him physically "jump" if you will in the water. We both stared at this thing for several minutes until we needed to return to the mooring line to ascend. When we got to the surface he told me he jumped because he thought it was a (human) body underneath the wreck. That is how big it was....the carapace was the size a large log, the "arms" leading to the largest claws you could imagine were more than shoulder length apart. The white teeth on the claws were huge.....again....sounds like a fish tale and you would need to see it to believe it.

Once diving solo on this wreck I counted 7 Spiny Dogfish.

You can return to this wreck and see something you have never seen before. As a boat owner I also like the fact that the moorings are well maintained.

The U853 is *awesome* but it's 12 miles off the coast of mainland RI and a max depth of 125' (on the outside). My favorite wrecks are in RI. USS-Bass is my favorite wreck anywhere followed by U853.

PS As Soggy eluded....the weather in this area is often rough so many, many dive trips get cancelled last minute.

Soggy:
That leaves you with a bunch of rubble piles.

The Poling is a nice dive...at low tide it is reachable at 75 ft, but the bottom is around 95ft.

Soggy did you relay dive the Andrea Doria ?

that's over 200 feet down ? ......

what's the max depth a recreational dive can go and still be safe ?

sorry if this is a novice question I'm still learning. don't start class for another week :)

I would pick something shallower then. ;)
