NetDoc:This is PRECISELY the type of stuff you should report. If it's merely a difference of opinion that's one thing. We really don't need people calling other people names JUST BECAUSE they don't agree with them. Heck, I don't mind taking them on, and it DOES piss them off. So sad, too bad. I've had one poster suggest that I don't play fair because I expose the fallacy of this type of mindset. Too funny.
Let's keep ScubaBoard open for ALL to post in.
The key word in my post, which I italicized, was suggest. Perhaps I should have said imply. They don't call people names, usually, they just make sure with smug self assurance that you hear that all mainstream values in scuba are wrong. The agency with which you are trained is incompetent. Your instructor was incompetent, as are they all. (And if you are an instructor, the implication is....) Has anyone ever heard a post that says a certain agency's name means "Put Another Dollar In"? Wow! What an original and clever comment! Never heard that before.
If you have ever read Animal Farm, you know that no one can have a meaningful discussion there because every time someone says something intelligent, the sheep start bleating a meaningless slogan which drowns out all attempts at useful discourse.
It isn't the individual post--it's the constant bleating that wears you down. As someone we all know says in his signature, no single drop thinks it's responsible for the flood.
I wrote something like this earlier in my initial post in this thread, and a very level-headed SB member adivsed me, wisely, to give up trying to post on these issues. I was told to ignore these rants and let them go. That is good for one's sanity, but when that happens, the thread and thus the topic of discussion is left to that faction alone, giving the impression that everyone else agrees. There is an old legal maxim: qui tacet consentire--silence gives consent.
