From a fairly new diver:

Do yourself a favor, and don't get caught up in the "DIR vs. other diving style" debates.

I don't prescribe to the DIR philosophies myself, but you can pick up some good tips from it, and from any other style of diving for that matter. Go with whatever works for you.

Keep all options open! :)

Was wondering how to hijack a thread that's already about DIR :)

Seriously, 911, it's hard to have an opinion on DIR until you understand the whole concept, not just bits and pieces (unfortunately, that's just because of the way a discussion board is structured).

It can also be hard to admit that something different may be (much) better. The main agencies do pretty much all teach the same "system" which easily leads to assume that there is only one way to dive.

Go to the websites, get the book if your curiosity is picked, and then try it for yourself to see if you like it.
