Thanks everyone for the great replies. I really appreciate it.

I really did want to say something great that would put him in his place, but being the bigger person I just concentrated on the dive I was about to do.

Teamcasa- he is NOT my type at all =)

Thanks again everyone. If you are ever on our little island come look me up at Aquatic Adventures, would love to take any of you diving.

Aloha

You can count on it!

Kauai, bet I can name the shop...

If it were me... and I managed to get over doing something terrible to him, I would..

Walk over...be nice, be smiling, and say:

"Yea, it sure is a shame you don't have the experience or skill for these sort of conditions...wish I had the time to help you, but got some students of my own to deal with..but hey, anytime you want to learn, just say the word..."

I try to ignore people described by the original poster as much as I can. That said, if he kept in my face...I'd beat him until he begged to be my bi@#h or quit breathing.

The next time he pulls this stunt, just say this to him in a loud voice:
"WILL YOU PLEASE STOP CALLING ME!!!"

Count me in, too.

Well, if you know for a fact they are badmouthing you, and it is not warranted, then maybe report them to your BBB, as I am sure that type of behavior is unethical.

Now, when confronted with the type of thing this person was saying, I would have been inclined to remark back that we (shop name) teach our students how to be safe in real conditions, not just the ones in the local pool...

I am starting to unload my gear to get set up for my certs that I am about to take diving,

Can you clarify this? Why were you there setting up ahead of them? You speak of "your certs" in a way that implies students, but say you're the DM, which implies otherwise. Were these students, or certified divers you were taking diving? If they were certified, since you seem to have been acting in a professional capacity, what was your role? Was it an orientation to local conditions?

Here's what I'm getting at... in my opinion, the idea that certified divers need supervision under ordinary conditions implies that they were inadequately trained, or that someone is profiting off concerns that that someone helped create. Either way, I don't see how that someone has any room to complain about that DI's puffery.

To clarify: I was taking out certified divers that had not dove in 5 years. When I say I was setting up....I was laying out a carpet to set gear on, chairs for them to sit on and getting tanks out of the truck. I was taking them on a guided dive.

I don't think that the DI's 'puffery' was professional or helpful. It was plain rude.

But the great thing about this website is that we are able to give our opinion, so thank you for yours BFW.

BTW saw this DI today and just gave him a big smile :D and waved.

I like this idea. Have someone go to HIS shop and buy an air fill card. Run over to the local Office Depot with a little cash and get 500 duplicate air fill cards printed up from the template. Then liberaly distribute the cards on the windsheilds of divers who frequent the site.

I would have smoked their a$$ in front of their class. I would have told the students how unprofessional that conduct was and what an idiot they were taking classes from. I would have told them if they really wanted to learn diving they should have picked a better instructor. Maybe somebody with a little class or somebody with more than 25 dives. "You should have seen what happened to the last class this instructor taught!"

Then again, I lack interpersonal skills. I have often been called blunt. When I am called <less flattering things>, I remind people it is Sergeant <less flattering things>. Or, it was...

Richard
NICE. :rofl3:
