... I used to be a very accomplished diver... one of the best...

Certainly the kind that had more dives than posts. ;)

But several years ago I took a DIRF...

Now I'm just a learner.

OW: June '01
AOW: May '02
Nitrox: June '02

20 dives in the first 10 months; 51 in the last 4.

Last dive: Bug Hunting tuesday evening [no luck]
Next planned dives: possibly BP/Wings sea trials tomorrow night. Searching for a lost sidescan towfish Saturday. Idene and Block Island pinnacle on Sunday.

Hopefully Adv Nitrox this fall or next spring and Deco Procedures next spring or summer.

All you da*n experienced people who call yourselves beginners are aggravating me. I understand what you mean though...you can never learn enough, have enough experience, know it all..etc etc etc. However, when your like me..about to start the OW class..I am a NEWBIE/Beginner...to the truest sense. I have read my PADI book and watched the tapes...I have about 30 minutes of pool time with the Discover Scuba course and thats the extent of my SCUBA life..for now. Give yourselves the credit you deserve..I want to be in your shoes, I want to have 20+, 50+, 100+ dives under my weight belt, but I dont. Hopefully, I will enjoy enough to go for that...but im not sure yet.

Ok I feel better! Thanks!

:)

i'll second what jepuskar says, im the ultimate newbie too two try dives in a swimming pool waiting to start my course next month, im sitting here green with envy reading how much experience some of the people have here.

It seems everytime I begin to think of myself as anything but a newbie, I dive with someone who (without saying anything) makes clear how much I have to learn.

Is this the GREATEST school ever, or WHAT!

What makes it even better, is that everyone keeps evolving new techniques which will keep me a newbie forever!

Looking for DIRF in my area to REALLY make me want to run and hide.

jepuskar once bubbled...

Take a tip from what we're saying. Where is your instructor at? Is your instructor a beginner as well at 150 dives, or a little more qualified?

diving 30 years,
1000+ plus dives
Instructor since 24 years
Nitrox Instructor 2 years

Mike, you sure your not a beginner? j/k

Spectre.....I did some homework on my instructor of my LDS. All he does is teach private courses and works mucho hours. He is also listed on DAN's website as qualified to teach several of their courses in first aid, etc, etc.. This guy is obviously dedicated to diving.

Obviously, I dont know what kind of instructor he is or if I will even like him, but I will certainly know this by later on tonight. You can tell alot about somebody on how they answer your questions! I have been excited about tonight...I just want to learn learn learn and do it right and have fun and be safe.

Wish me luck!
