Lot's of great tips here. I might add that in addition to your first aid kit, bring twice as many bandaids as you think you might need.

What happened to you? Sounds like you really needed a clinic.Might be a good idea, but I don't carry any altho I do carry antiseptic ointment.

Don't forget sunscreen. It is not cheap on the island.
