There used to be a boat out of New Jersey called the Deep Adventures II, we called the captain, Capt’n Bligh and he ran fishing charters in the evening. So, after diving Saturday and expecting to sleep on the boat Saturday night we would be told to get the gear off the boat so the fishing party on the dock could get on. If the fish weren’t hitting we might see the boat by 1AM, if they were more like 2 or 3AM. 45 minutes after docking we would be able to get to the bunks which mostly smelled like fish guts and diesel, with a hint of mold and mildew and would be wet with condensation and water that leaked in through the deck.

Ah, those were the days that made NJ/NY wreck divers what they were.

Of course to pass the time till the boat came in, there was a bar called the “Barber Shop” across the street of which we cannot discus the events which occurred within anyplace wives, girls friends, or people who currently respect us can read. I thank God that camera phone's were not invented at the time.
