I wonder if we will see an increase in issues over time?

Bob

unlikely. If it's going to go, it'll go. The problem we have with scuba is that most people aren't doing full enough cleanings, but we also have valves and regulators that come on and off far more than medical bottles which gives a lot more room for contaminants to get in *even oils from your fingers when changing o-rings*

The medical O2 regulators do not even have user accessible O-rings.

It depends.

The most widely used medical gas bottles in the United States use a CGA 870 valve, which utilizes a "Bodok Seal" or sealing washer rather than an O-ring. The seal is user accessible, and depending on material, is replaced every time a cylinder is switched out, or reused. These "pin index" valves are used in many countries outside the United States, as well.

In the United States, larger medical oxygen bottles use a CGA 540 valve, which uses a wrench-tight, metal-to-metal connection.

SCUBA regulators typically do not have user accessible O-rings as such, other than the face O-ring on the DIN fitting or cylinder yoke valve.

CGA540 has a soft nipple tip on it
A CGA540 nipple doesn't always have the soft tip on it. The soft tips are meant to be used with the hand tight wheels.
