Sorry

I use 1 inch bolt snaps for my backup lights. I find that they are easy to unclip/clip with lined blue smurf gloves. I also use the same size snaps for my stage bottle clips.

My GUE cave instructor recommnded the smallest size which I believe is the 3/8" version. Too big can be a PITA.

Back up lights are generally a 1/2" bolt snap. At least that's according to Dress for success

And I will give it too. How often do you guys actually deploy your backup lights? Since they are almost never used, you want the clips small and out of the way. The light is turned on while it is still on the harness. Therefore, if it takes a little while to get it off because you have gloves, etc., you have light so the extra time is no big deal. Also, smaller clips hold the lights up closer to the D-rings, interfere lesss with other clips on the D-rings, are less likely to have other clips accidently hooked to them instead of the D-ring, etc., etc., etc.

Every freaking dive during class  Other than that, it only seems to happen during the trips where we experience an abundance of primary light failures.

Accidentally clipping to a bolt snap instead of the D-ring can be a real PITA. This is one reason I went back to a smaller snap (1/2" IIRC) for my stage rigging. The theory that you need big snaps for gloves does not translate into the warm water dives where it's not really hard to clip and unclip. I tried the larger ones from Nix Dog Collars when I made some stage rigging kits and I have since dumped the larger snaps. I don't even use large snaps for cold water with gloves anymore. I think my regs are all 3/8" as well.
