Hello to Forum,

Just got certified.

I have a question for some of you pro's.
While on my check out dive, I was first in the water, missed the line to go down and needed to swim hard to get back to it as the current was a little strong. We were doing a wreck dive and it took a while for everyone to meet 20ft down on the rope, by the time we all got to the bottom ( 70-80 ft I think ) I noticed I was down to 1000 psi ( Im over 6 ft 220 pds ), my instructor I noticed was chumming the waters with fish guts. by the time I got his attention I told him I was at 900 psi, he want about his merry way
feeding the fishes, by the time I swam up to him I was at 650. To which he signaled for me to go up the line with another experienced diver. Half way up the tank emptied, and I had to buddy breath the rest of the way up.
Im thinking I should have checked my air when I got first down, and gone back up with my buddy before I was at 1000psi ( put that down to inexperience ). But when I reached that point (1000 psi) I was no where near the line to surface. The current was strong and I wasnt sure on the speed of ascent to make or where id surface. Should I have swam up slowly at 900psi and forgone the 3 minute saftey stop? I didnt want to endanger my buddy as he was only 13, uncertified and wast sure how much air he had also.
