If you think that poverty has anything to do with demand for shark's fins, you have never seen Ferraris and Bentleys parked two-deep outside of a Hong Kong restaurant serving $100 bowls of shark's fin soup. What I'm pointing out is that there are a large portion of HUMANS on the Earth that can barely survive and because of that don't come close to thinking about the conservation of another species. If you are able to be concerned about another species besides Homo Sapien, you are better provided for than many of the world's residents. I totally support awareness of the earth and its various inhabitants, animal and human, but we have to face the fact that many of the Earth's human residents exists in survival mode and not Best Buy mode. If you don't understand this, you have probably never been in an impovrished, war-torn country. These places exist and are much different from the USA.
I would not judge a poor person who feeds his family with shark, or by catching shark. I judge the wealthy people who demand it to feed their vanity.
