I'm currently using Apeks xtx40's wtih DS4's with my stage & deco cylinders, I'm wondering if there are better options?
Better in what sense? Regs is regs, pretty much anything will work fine as long as they're properly maintained and you keep gas density down within reasonable limits. Nothing wrong with Apeks. In practice what matters more is local availability of parts and service, and commonality with your dive buddies so that you can swap parts if you need a last minute spare.
That said, for stage regs I prefer turret firsts like the ScubaPro Mk25 because that reduces tension on the hose. While the turret theoretically introduces an extra failure point, in practice I've never had a failure in that part.

I thought everyone had moved beyond that color coding nonsense.
Unfortunately, I still see "lean left, rich right" and color coding being taught in tech classes here in FL from some of the local instructors.

Poseidon Cyklon 300s, almost exclusively -- because I still have a fully-functional bunch (don't even recall the current number) decades later; they're bulletproof; dirt simple with ridiculously few (three!) o-rings in the first stages, which can easily be swapped out for "richer" mixes . . .

The D6G predecessor to the current Excursion series.

Atomic Z2 for stages/deco, M1 for primary tanks.

Underwater color coding is non-sense because for anything beyond recreational limits all colors look the same (unless you use a lamp to illuminate the regs and hoses).

It may make sense to easily identify different regs top side.

Over the past couple of years I have adopted a system where I have MOD taped to second stages and low pressure hoses that is helpful both underwater and top side.

Most respectfully and in a cordial tone, I am not trying to sell an idea. Your view does have undeniable merit, but I balk at the word "nonsense". I merely provided what I use...and I will continue to dive thus. To your point, I always carry at least two dive lights (and cannot imagine entering the depths otherwise), so I remain properly equipped to differentiate colors. If light should fail me, I am no further behind than anyone else. May we please resume with the topic of the thread? It is less about my personal (albeit disagreeable by some) preference than a discussion of what regulators we use.
