My circumference is only about 31 inches. My waist strap on my 18 pound rig has no room for a pocket. There is a knife and a buckle and the D rings but that is it but I admit some valuable space was used by the two XS QR pockets, one each side (weight integration). But on my 30 pound rig, I use a weight belt and I still have no room for a useful pocket.

On both I have installed a standard (non QR) XS weight pocket on the shoulder harness and tucked them as far down and back against the wing as possible. One carries a spool, the other can carry a rescue kit (small mirror, dye pack, mini strobe etc).

Ah sweet. I didn't know those pockets could actually hold a spool or anything! Will consider those as well!

The way my rescue kit works is that it is one of those Trident or similar that come with everything in a small velcro closure net bag. Since I already carry the spool and sausage on my right side, in the left side I carry the rescue kit. I cut the mirror down to fit into the pocket. I eliminated the plastic sausage. I have a tiny LED flasher for a strobe and I put these items including a small lanyard tucked and folded into the net bag. I clip the lanyard into the pocket and tuck the extra lanyard (cave line) into the net pouch. That way, when, if ever, I need it, I reach into the XS pocket, grab the net pouch and pull it out, the cave line lanyard will automatically pull out of the net pouch, if you follow. Then I can deploy the mirror, dye pouch or LED strobe flasher as required. I also have a tether line to hook me to my wife (the cave line lanyard) so we cannot float apart. It is a very small kit, so yes it fits into the XS weight pouch.

On the right side, my spool goes into the pouch with the double ender clipped onto it. The sausage clipped to the double ender does hang out but since the entire outfit is tucked way back under the wing and plate, it does not get in the way. I think my sausage is a 6 footer size, it has a velcro bottom closure.

I used to carry a UK LED light on my right upper harness clipped into the D ring and secured with tube bands (inner tube) but after having about two dozen of those flood I have given up on them - FOREVER- and have yet to find a suitable substitute.

Useful pockets on a standard Hog harness are a challenge, especially for us smaller people.

Yes you can get some pockets you thread through your waist strap but I've found them to be a hassle. I had a pair of Apeks pockets and the rode a little too low on me. EVERY TIME I tried climbing out of the rocks on a shore dive (or maybe like climbing out the ladder of a boat), they would fall down and get in my way!

Now I have a pair of Highlander shorts that are awesome. Several other manufacturers make them like Scubapro too. They feel really comfortable and you have lots of space! You can also add some D-rings to the front and side to clip stuff off too. Since you're diving in a harness I'm assuming you have a back plate too? You can buy a back plate pad from Hollis and other manufacturers. Book screws attach the pad to your BP and that gives you a little extra room for wet notes or an SMB.

You can also hide things in your buddy's pockets. I find they don't seem to notice things smaller than a back-up mask and weigh less than a SS finger spool. ;) ;)
