I've never been a big fan of "the real world" and have always preferred water... after all, this IS the Water Planet. Motivation for diving? The Zen-like state I'm in whenever I do, the reduction in stress and blood pressure with lasting effects, the diversity of life, the sense of discovery (even after nearly 50 years of doing "it"), etc.

Oh, and I am a marine biologist, educator, cable TV show producer and create underwater videos so W-O-R-K is another motivating factor!

I was always curious and wanted to do it....but then when my hubby and I planned our honeymoon to Cozumel, it was the perfect excuse to learn. Now I love to dive because I'm still curious....and because the feeling of being neutral and gliding effortlessly is amazing. And now I get to add a new thing to the mix - my never-ending desire to always get better, get more confident, get more competent, and continue learning.

cant here the wife nag.. just kidding well maybe a little. seriously though its the quiet, sounds, weightless and curiousity to explore. I have always wanted to do it and i love the water topside.. so there had to be more below.

Number one reason, Its FUN!! I went to a boy scout jamboree and did the discover scuba thing they had, ever since then I wanted to scuba dive. This then turned into a way to combine my love of nature and photography to being completely weight less while in water.

I enjoy this hobby/sport that I plan on continuing this sport all the way up to an instructor.

I started diving because I was a bit bored of rock climbing and travel and wanted new adventure and scenery. Scuba offered a new sport, adventure, cool gear to play with & new techniques to master.

Then, I fell in love with an underwater beauty that sometimes leaves me utterly speechless. The grace of floating weightless in still water or drifting on gentle currents is so blissful. The excitement of faster currents, large animals & uncertainty is exhilarating! And then you get to peek into the world of the tiny and large animals and watch the interplay. There are so many surprises, excitements, fears, and blissful, blissful joys.

To me the underwater world is a place of fantasy, where colors shift on the spectrum, tiny things come to life, graceful life swims by and reality shifts as you progress deeper or wander into a night dive filled with phosphorescents. Ahh my senses are so alive!

I agree, it is like meditation – a place that is free from the world above. And then you surface to friends, community and more good times!

It is often difficult to comprehend I have such opportunity.

In summary I'd say I dive for the: Beauty, Peace, Excitement, Adventure, cool gear, friendships, animal life, and new experience

Even though I have well over 100 dives in the same quarry, you'd think it would get boring, but I don't. There always seems to be something new or different to explore or new techniques for me to improve upon. For me the excitement come from challenging myself to do better with my buoyancy control,... getting it down to a gnat's butt, while multi tasking by performing another skill (like running a reel). I also enjoy the challenge of cold, deep water diving here (though I really don't like the cold, I just like the challenge). There are so many dimensions to diving, to many to really name. In fact I enjoy it so much, I am in the process of finishing up an OW Instructor course, so I can share the experiences with others who have an interest in learning the sport.
