Wreck diving is the allure, however cave training is likely in my future.

IANTD's definition of a Technical Diver:
Technical Diving – An advanced form of recreational diving utilizing skills, techniques, equipment and knowledge beyond the requirements of sport diving. Technical diving includes, but is not limited to, dives deeper than 130 fsw (39 msw), dives into overhead environments beyond a visible exit point, dives using mixed gas (in addition to sport diving EANx mixtures), and dives requiring staged decompression. According to this definiton, I am a technical diver because I am full cave. My next step will be Technical Cave which I hope to do this fall which would comprise of required staged decompression and further penetration. I have always wanted to do wreck penetration so dives exceeding 130fsw and advanced mixes will hopefully be in my future at some point.

No I have not. I was thinking about that earlier and wondering if I should take that before Tech Cave. It seems that it would be a prerequisite if you will be using oxygen for deco and stage bottles.

What does Tech Cave do for you that you can't already do with Full cave and AN/DP?

Stages?

you don't need advanced nitrox and deco procedures. that's kind of the point. it's for a diver with no deco training.
it's just a combo of technical diver and cave diver.
you have to take both written exams. we covered stage diving in my tech cave course. not sure about an/dp. didn't take that one

Thanks, didn't know what that entailed and it sounds like that will help Denise in her plans with whatever path she chooses. Since she's already got Full Cave, I think I'd just take AN/DP if I were her *shrugs* she has plenty of buddies that can help her figure out stage diving.

agreed. tech cave isn't a class for someone who already has full cave. just take tech diver if you want to go the iantd route

This was the explanation I received for a sidemount diver who wanted advanced training after full cave. I am not sure if this qualifies one as an AN/DP diver or not. Does anyone know? It seems to be AN/DP with an emphasis on sidemount in a cave :

Students that want to continue on to advanced training in sidemount diving usually add two days to full cave class and we handle things like tanks off and on underwater, emergencies, staging with sidemounts, smaller restrictions, longer deco planning, etc.

At the full cave level, you are better off just going the AN/DP route or Advanced Recreational Trimix/DP...you're qualified for either one right now. You can do Tech Cave, but you'll still eventually have to do AN/DP if you want to do Trimix, so basically it's a waste of time. All my cave card says is "Cave". But I'm also Trimix. Not sure if you already have an instructor chosen or not, but if you don't, PM or e-mail me (chipoladivers@gmail.com) or call 850-272-7484 and we can discuss further.
