I'd go with Torpedo Ray but hard to tell from the angle (tail). (S) He's a little bit of a fish maybe about 9V, but please look don't touch. Oh yeah and for goodness sake get the Secondary out of the sand. OK one more item on the ballot, stick with Lobster, star fish are a bit tough, but I hear they taste like chicken.

That is definitely a skate, not a torpedo. No doubt about it. The longer tail with those barbs you can see if you look closely, the diamond body shape and those two little almost transparent sections at the tip of the nose are all dead giveaways that it is a skate not a torpedo.

Torpedos have a more round disk shaped body, a thicker body, a thicker shorter tail with no barbs, they don't have those two marks on the nose, plus they have a much more clearly defined caudal fin at the tip of the tail.

I take it some of you divers go diving and just harrass the sealife! Man, like the other person said..someone needs to be slapped!

can't believe there's this much action [on scubaboard] over a lil skate, wonder if this skate feels like a celebrity? 15 minutes are up...;0)

It's a common skate, not the celebrity torpedo ray. Touching a torpedo would result in an unpleasant shock. Hurleyskis and I saw two @ Folly about a week or so ago. Much bigger than any skate.

OKAY I WAS NOT ON THIS DIVE .. ONE OF MY FRIEDS ASKED ANOTHER DIVE TO GO WITH US .. HE TOOK SOME PICS AND PUT THEM ON HIS WEB SIGHT ...
I WAS LOOKING AT HIS WEB SIGHT AND SAW THIS FISH .. THAT SAID IT WAS FROM FOLLY COVE ... SO I JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHAT KIND IT WAS ... SO IF I SAW IT (BECASUE I DIVE FOLLY COVE A LOT ) I COULD RECORD IT IN MY DIVE LOG AS A NEW FISH :) .....

I MY SELF DONT PICK THINGS UP ..... I KNOW WE ARE IN THE SEA TO LOOK BUT NOT PICK UP ............ :) IM A GOOD DIVER.

Yeah, anyone who actually read the thread knows it wasn't you Gabe. If you know who the diver was who was holding the skate though, please let him know from all of us that that ain't cool. Either that, or point him in the direction of a torpedo ray. :)

You're likely to see a lot of skates around here if you keep your eyes open.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever done a dive up here without seeing at least a few, sometimes dozens. Crabs like to hang out on top of them for some reason, also.
