I agree that it was probably narcosis. I have gotten the same feeling. One time it came on so suddenly it caught me by surprise. I had to tell myself I was narced and to relax.

To those who never get a good narc, what a bummer! I love the feeling of a nice mild case under good conditions. Those are fun and actually relaxing.

Later, Hawk.

Pam,

I just had an interesting - similar - experience myself recently. Narcosis that felt like panic.

I've got about 20 dives below 100 feet and have never been narcotized, until now. I've been past 120 feet several times and went to 140 feet once. I never felt narcotized, although I never really had any major task loading besides watching my SPG, depth gauge and buddy.

Recently I went to 100 feet on a wall in a murky reservoir. It was completely dark down there, and fairly cold. Visibility was 4 or 5 feet. We were away from the wall and therefore had no visual references. Task loading was relatively high compared to a typical rec dive -- SPG, depth gauge, bottom timer, compass, canister light, buddy.... It was like flying IFR.

I looked at my compass to follow a bearing back to the wall and couldn't figure out how the compass worked. This was associated with a feeling like I was about to panic. What a strange feeling. Was I just narcotized or was it combination of narcosis and anxiety from knowing I was narcotized?

Very interesting.

Your friend wished she would have been there for you that day at Devil's Throat... but she was busy making pottery for ya with some island kids at the resort. ;-) Take Care on your next trip and be extra safe. Wish I was going to be there with you... wherever your next adventure takes you. I'm going to miss diving with you for a long time to come. jenn

Have we missed something? Your post is nearly 2 1/2 years after the previous post?

No, not at all... :) I have been diving with Pam for years up until this year. I'll miss diving with her. She taught me so much in diving especially patience. Great dive partners/friends are hard to come by... Just touching base. thanks. Happy diving.

So SCBeach are you the one that had "the dream" that started this whole thread 2 years ago????

Hi there... yes, that was me who had the dream. After having the dream and having a bad gut feeling about that morning's dive... I had to stay back. I would have gone on the dive though if we did not have a third person on our trip with us. Pam was going to partner up with her cousin instead... so I felt ok about it. Did not want to leave her pertnerless. Felt bad after she got back though(I should have been there)- but also relieved that she was ok and had her witts about her to ascend a little and get out of an inevidably worsening situation. That big blue sea is so wonderful & gorgeous... yet can take us anytime she wants. We are merely observers at her mercy. jenn
