In Australia the respective state governments can't even agree as to whether it is safe to send kids back to school because of social distancing as our CMO claims that children don't seem to spread the virus.....???????

80% asymptomatic, which means 20% symptomatic. Some percentage of that will need hospitalization. Can medical resources handle it all at once? Some percentage will require ICU. Are there resources enough to handle all of that at once? Or at some rate? Maybe the virus isn't that deadly if everyone who ends up in the hospital can get excellent care, but that won't happen if resources are lacking.

The whole lockdown/shelter-in-place works best at the beginning of the spread. Slower spread, less deadly, because better care can be provided.

There may be no vaccine or herd immunity ultimately, but things can be managed in the long run. With time, more resources can be put in place, so that the mortality rate is low.

Figures can lie and liars can figure. I honestly don't think we are ever going to see the true numbers of this pandemic. 100 years later and the best they can do with the mortality rate of the Spanish flu was 50 to 100 million deaths. Umm, that's kind of not much better than guessing.

The last time our hospital used a portable morgue was three years ago, when we repaired the refrigeration unit. We ran 2-3 as a census and were concerned when we got to 5. Our total capacity is 12. For the last three weeks we were regularly running at 12-13 with overflow of 6. Bigotry??? This is ridiculous. There is no western or eastern science. There is science. Science of diving, physics, mathematics, medicine, pharmacology... There are studies that are done with several arms, randomization and other techniques to make sure that the results are valid. The studies work just as well out East and out West and anywhere in between. They can help to sort out a lot of superstitions, regardless of where they originated.
