Tagged along on a check out dive from the LDS as an extra/helper. Found out that the new guy tows the buoy. :shocked2: Murphy also showed up. Put my regulator (only piece of equipment I own) on the first tank and heard a hissing. Thinking o-ring, I swapped tanks, same thing. Turns out the gauge hose had a pinhole in it. It was fine during the week when the shop added a octo. Some how it happened in the bag between then and now. Fortunately, the lead instructor had an extra reg and let me use it.

The shop is contemplating using a Henderson 7mm Thermoprene as their rental suits, and let me test one out. Seemed to fit great in the shop, not so much in the water. Seems I'm a L/XL, and it was an XL, so I either need a custom suit or an XL shorty and an L farmer john. Also, being a brand new suit, I needed 8 more pounds of weight than I did on my last dive. At first I thought I had air pockets in the suit as it was so loose waist down. Took me a long time to figure out the problem, as I couldn't believe I'd need that much more weight.

By the second dive all the problems cleared up and had a good rest of the day. Water was 48*F and the air about 50*F. More than comfortable with the 7mm. Vis was 20+ feet. Not a lot of life in the water yet.

was everyone in wetsuits?
One instructor had a dry suit, everyone else had a wet suit.

Malpaso, Where were you diving? Last week our temp. was 41. Instructors (only) in drysuits as usual. I'll be down your way in July for those 60-70F water temps. and my shortie.

I'll be at Old Garden tomorrow afternoon with my nephew, a brand new diver. I hope you're right about the temp (I heard 46) as we'll both be wet, but the viz sounds like a vast improvement over just last week.
I guess I should make him tow the flag then, huh?
