Vie:Ancient Tai Muangs (city states/kingdoms) adopted many cultural practices from 9-15th Century Khmer culture. The Khmer Empire is NOT modern day Cambodia. Modern "Thai" culture is a blending of Tai, Khmer, Mon, Chinese, Indian customs and Theravada (Hinayana) Buddhism, with influences from Portugal, France, England and Malay/Muslim culture to the south. The Thai language is one of the many in the Tai-Kadai family and is a tonal language, unlike Khmer (Austroasiatic) - both were heavily influenced by Pali and Sanskrit. The above statement is ignorant to the extreme.
