What do you thnk of pull dumps?

Many BC's have a pull dump on the inflator hose. I've seen varied opinions scattered in posts on the pull dumps being a nice convience, or, a very very bad thing.

What's everyone's opinion? Is it too easy to damage or tear the hose, or, is this a nice and common feature thats there to be used.

There is no reason that you need to use the pull dump. I only use it to rinse that valve, and to stop run away divers when you can. (read my other post about over weight diving)

Any other time you need to dump air using the regular using the end valve would be just fine. And if I'm not mistaken, DIR divers do not even have a "pull" dump valve. From the pictures I've seen it is just an elbow piece to the hose. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I tend to use the pull dump all the time.
Finding it much easier just to give the deflator a little tug to vent air from my wing as oppose to having to raise the deflator above my shoulder to dump the air.

I've used them in the past and admit it was nice not to raise your inflator above your head to dump air. I no longer have a dump valve on my inflator hose and feel it's a bit safer.

I use it as a dump valve, like when I first decend; but, for trip I use the valve at the end of the hose =-)

I use mine most of the time. First, I was trained to do this. Second, as a drysuit diver, I keep horizontal with a slightly head up pitch. This makes my pull dump the highest point in my BC. Lifting my hand above my head to dump from the deflator valve is rather difficult in this position, and causes my drysuit do vent. This is especially difficult, since the deflator is usually bungeed to the front of your BC/webbing.

When I dive on reefs, I adopt a slightly head down pitch, and dump from the rear valve.

I missed the discussions on why the dump is dangerous. If you could point me to the thread, I would like to hear the explanations.

Ooops, looks like I misread and misvoted.

I read the question as it was asking for use of a pulldump, and I missed the qulaification of an inflator pulldump. My BC has one, but it always feels like I'm going to rip the hose off.

I've only ever used it once, and that was on my first dive with the BC. I've only ever used it 'the regular way' since then.

Not neccessary. Used to use one and then one day on a cave dive the hose came off in my hand. No need for it. You can use the inflator or your rear dump (that takes some getting used to).
